Ford Motor Company just announced a big recall of over 200,000 vehicles to address flickering camera images. This recall covers a number of their most popular models. Included in the list are the Ford Bronco Sport, EcoSport, Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, F-250 Super Duty, Fusion, Maverick, Mustang, Ranger and the Lincoln Aviator.
This recall only impacts the Ford Bronco Sport in model years 2021 through 2024. To that, we add the 2020-2021 Ford EcoSport. Included are the 2019-2020 Edge and 2020-2022 Escape. The 2020-2021 Expedition and the 2020-2024 Explorer are included under the same recall release. Included are F-150 Super Duty equipped with a 2019-2020 large-scale multipurpose center display. Furthermore, the F-250 Super Duty models from 2020 through 2022 qualify for this shortlist. Other impacted models include the Fusion, made between 2019 and 2020. The Maverick availability is from 2022 to 2024, while the Mustang and Ranger were developed between 2019 and 2023. Finally, the Lincoln Aviator from model years 2020 to 2023 joins the recall.
The cumulative number of vehicles potentially impacted by this recall is 200,061. The company has determined that there are defects in the camera systems in these models. These problems can contribute to a driver’s lack of rear visibility or threaten clarity. This presents a heightened danger of crashes while backing up or turning around in small areas.
In addition to the recommendations in my previous post, Ford should immediately notify owners of affected vehicles of the recall. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent by July 28. Ford will include full directions in these individual letters. These responders will help keep the cameras in good repair so they can continue creating safer streets.
Ford advises customers experiencing issues with their vehicle’s camera system prior to receiving their notification letter to contact their local dealership for assistance. The company’s passion for people extends from safety to the customer experience. Through their lawsuit, they promise owners that in the near future, they will take immediate steps to address this concern.
