Honda Issues Recall for Over 250,000 Vehicles in the U.S.

Honda has issued a recall on more than 250,000 vehicles in the United States. This step follows the agency’s investigation into a dangerously defective brake pedal assembly. The automaker began alerting dealers to the recall beginning June 13. They will start sending notifications via mail to vehicle owners starting July 28. Honda only acted after they had three warranty claims on the brake pedal failure between February 2024 and June 5, 2023. Luckily, there have been no known injuries associated with this defect.

The problem stems from improperly installed brake pedal pivot pin. This blunder happened at a supplier’s manufacturing facility in the United States. This supplier’s facility has since been closed. Honda has addressed the shortfall by shifting production to an assembly plant south of the border in Mexico. There, they’ve developed a new camera-based sensor to check that the pivot pin is staked properly.

The possible repercussions of this large assembly mistake are grave. According to America Honda, “The issue could also cause an abnormal brake pedal feeling during operation, illuminate the brake malfunction light in the instrument cluster, or cause the vehicle’s brake lights to remain lit even when the brake pedal is not applied.” These symptoms can create dangerous conditions for drivers and all other road users.

Honda’s early and proactive response to this defect is evident in its comprehensive investigation and swift remedial action to protect the safety of its customers. The company says it is dedicated to finding a prompt, fair and effective resolution to this matter.
