Lamborghini’s Temerario Supercar Sells Out Amidst Customer Demand for Traditional Engines

As of today Lamborghini has confirmed a very limited production run for its newest hybrid supercar, the Temerario. They’ve produced just 29 units thus far, all of which have been sold. This one-of-a-kind model is equipped with a mighty twin-turbo V8 engine. It holds that honor proudly as the third hybrid vehicle ever built at Lamborghini’s storied Sant’Agata Bolognese factory in Italy. The Temerario was sold out almost immediately, proving Lamborghini customers’ passion for extreme, high-performance powerplants. They are particularly fond of their mighty V12 and V8 configurations.

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, recently explained to CNBC the overwhelming response for traditional internal combustion engines from their customers. He added that customers are sending a signal that they want to have V12s and V8s parked in their garages. This mounting trend has played a huge role in Lamborghini’s strategic decision-making, resulting in the cancelation of plans to produce all-electric supercars and SUVs.

The Revuelto is both a new flagship model and the Italian firm’s most powerful V12 supercar. It has produced quite the excitement—orders are already sold out through 2026! Even the Urus SE, Lamborghini’s most electrified SUV, has brought in outstanding orders. Winkelmann emphasized the importance of the V12 engine in Lamborghini’s heritage, calling it “an iconic symbol of Lamborghini’s super sports heritage and history.”

This move high-production strategy must be working because as Lamborghini doubles down on traditional performance in the face of the full-electrification wave. Despite advancements in electric vehicle technology, Winkelmann remarked, “We could do a very powerful, very fast fully electric car, but it’s not about what we are able to do, it’s about fulfilling the dreams of customers.”

So much of Lamborghini’s success goes beyond the Temerario and its other hybrid offerings. The company recently announced that it has completely sold out global production in 2026. This accomplishment is particularly impressive considering the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had previously affected sales across the automotive industry.

This is why luxury automakers like Lamborghini are rethinking their pricing approach in response to this significant shift. They further shared behind the scenes production information on the Temerario. The company absorbed 93% of the added costs for the Urus and Temerario models, but still raised prices for customers. At the same time, they increased the cost of the Revuelto by 10%. This move acknowledges the current economic climate while still focusing on a high-end consumer who will pay a premium for an engaging, fuel-efficient performance machine.

Among the exclusive production run of 30 units of an unspecified model, Lamborghini is retaining one unit for its museum. This decision further emphasizes the marque’s determination to honor its heritage while still moving forward and creating new models.

Additionally, Lamborghini is subject to external factors influencing sales dynamics, like tariffs levied by the U.S. market. As it stands, certain Lamborghini models are subject to a crushing 27.5% tariff. Ongoing negotiations aim to find a compromise that would lower this corporate minimum rate to 15%. These kinds of changes can have profound effects on future evergreen sales tactics and equitable access to the market.

As Lamborghini moves forward with its production plans and customer engagement strategies, the company remains firmly committed to its roots in high-performance vehicles. The continued demand for models like the Revuelto and the sold-out Temerario demonstrates that even in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, traditional engine configurations maintain a significant appeal among luxury car enthusiasts.
