SBS Expands Access to Finance and News with New Podcast Offerings

SBS has recently kicked off a vibrant new wave of podcasting initiatives. These initiatives are intended to produce more engaging and inviting news narratives that connect with a broader demographic. The two flagship podcasts, “On the Money” and “News in English,” cater to listeners seeking business updates and simplified news coverage, respectively.

On the Money, hosted by SBS Finance Editor Ricardo Gonçalves, provides a quick-fire ten-minute summary of the day’s big finance and business stories. This new podcast is meant to help you stay abreast of important moves in the market and changes in the economy. Gonçalves is an accomplished reporter and editor in the financial world. His experience helps inform the program, ensuring the material we teach is timely, topical, and interesting.

In addition to “On the Money,” SBS produces a weekly, five-minute, multilingual news wrap. We’ve created this wrap, which is formatted especially for English learners and people with disabilities. Titled “News in English,” this podcast simplifies current events and makes them more accessible, allowing a broader audience to stay updated on important news stories. In keeping with SBS’s commitment to being for all Australians, both podcasts are designed to engage and entertain listeners from all walks of life.

Watch or listen to the podcasts right here, or visit them on your favorite podcasting app. That means almost anybody can easily listen in at their own convenience! SBS has launched a special section of its website exclusively for news podcasts. This step improves visibility and discoverability overall, and helps users find new audio content.

SBS’s podcast offerings go beyond finance and simplified news. The nonprofit has a hand in creating podcasts, educational videos, animation projects and more — including a great mix of subjects and appeals that means there’s something for everyone. SBS expands its podcast offering to match the distinct tastes of its listeners. This play is a natural extension of its mission to provide award-winning independent journalism.
