SBS Expands Accessibility with Daily News Podcasts for English Learners and Individuals with Disabilities

SBS is in the midst of launching a new series of initiatives. DOT requires these programs to improve access and participation from English language learners and individuals with disabilities. The network’s latest initiative, providing independent local coverage of their network, is a daily, five-minute “News in English” wrap. Its purpose is to address the needs of these audiences. We know this through the program, IATP, an indispensable source for the short, clear, tight news updates that we all need.

SBS provides services beyond the scope of “News in English.” Subscribe to On The Money, a ten-minute finance and business news wrap hosted by SBS Finance Editor Ricardo Gonçalves! This new segment keeps listeners up to date with cutting-edge financial policy and business innovation. It ensures that they remain in touch with what’s happening in an ever-evolving economic landscape.

These podcasts will be easily discoverable by listeners on their favorite podcast apps. This great convenience lets them keep on top of the news even when they’re away from their computer. SBS has created a short link to its news podcasts page sbs.com.au/news/listen. Today, users can virtually browse a library of distinct topics and find content that suits their interests.

As part of this, the initiative demonstrates SBS’s commitment to inclusivity by delivering original, bespoke content aimed at a range of different audiences. By structuring news in an accessible format, the network ensures that individuals who may face challenges in traditional media consumption can still engage with current events.

These daily five-minute wrap programs provide an invaluable tool for English learners too. They’re able to enhance their linguistic capabilities while preparing them intellectually and practically to engage with the affairs of the world. This strategy intentionally fosters language learning. It accomplishes this while fostering an incredible feeling of community between its listeners, all of whom are going through the exact same struggle.
