SBS Expands Accessibility with Daily News Wraps and Podcasts

To pair with this initiative, SBS has recently rolled out an Accessibility Content Initiative focusing on making news more accessible to English learners and people with disabilities. The nonprofit recently launched a consumer-friendly five-minute-a-day news wrap designed especially for those new and busy audiences. This project is a small piece of SBS’s broader pledge to make their news more inclusive and accessible.

Our new daily news wrap provides smart, short expert analysis of the biggest headlines each day. This helps listeners feel plugged in without getting inundated with too much information. This free service is especially helpful for individuals who have limited English proficiency or learning disabilities. Most importantly, it helps them stay more connected to the story of what’s happening right now.

Beyond the weekday news wrap, SBS offers a wide range of exciting news podcasts, exploring hundreds of topics that matter to you. One particularly powerful and helpful offering is “News in English.” That’s all while they continue to build their language skills, promote social awareness, and stay connected to the world around them. We’re hoping that this podcast can be a useful tool for anyone interested in improving their understanding and lexicon.

Ricardo Gonçalves, SBS Finance Editor, hosts the daily wrap of the business and finance news in ten minutes. Similar to our Financial Fridays event, this wrap allows listeners to capture a brief snapshot of key financial developments and market trends. It takes the dense, technical stuff and makes it digestible and understandable for all. Gonçalves even touches the podcast directly, delivering listeners the kind of focused, frontline financial information that’s uniquely valuable to them.

You can find SBS news podcasts easily on all major podcast apps. That’s what makes it so easy to listen, watch, and experience all the great stuff on your own time! Audiovisual content is much more effective at helping everyone understand their content. These podcasts are an excellent complement to help continue that learning journey.

For those interested in accessing SBS’s extensive collection of news podcasts, the content can be found on the SBS website at https://www.sbs.com.au/news/listen. The website serves as a central hub for all available podcasts, providing easy navigation for listeners seeking specific topics or formats.
