SBS Expands Accessibility with New Finance and News Podcasts

As part of making the news more accessible and engaging, SBS has also recently released two new podcasts—one to explain the news, and another to share the news. Hosted by SBS Finance Editor Ricardo Gonçalves, the daily ten-minute podcast, “On the Money.” This five-minute “News in English” is aimed at supporting English learners and people with disabilities.

On the Money

Getting a jump on the day’s finance and business news in a compact, morning digest. The goal is to provide smart, relevant stories that help audiences understand the importance of what’s happening in the financial world, all in a quick, digestible form. Gonçalves is the guide to this discussion, making it smart, passionate and clear. We’re excited to bring his unique talents here to help listeners make sense of complex financial topics.

Along with “On the Money,” SBS produces “News in English.” This podcast is ideal for anyone who struggles to consume news in traditional formats. This five-minute wrap offers user-friendly news, creating equitable access for English learners and the visually impaired. By tailoring their outreach to these unique audiences, SBS sets a great example of how agency leaders can prioritize inclusivity and educational opportunities.

You can catch up with all of these podcasts on the SBS website at SBS News Podcasts. While you’re at it, check out their other offerings too! You can listen to the podcasts on most major app platforms. This will give you an opportunity to more easily read the content no matter where you are.

The “On the Money” podcast has a pretty cool banner image, which you can check out here. Likewise, “News in English” has a distinct visual treatment all its own, which you can view here. These assets help establish the visual identity of each podcast, making them instantly recognizable to listeners.

The effort behind developing these podcasts is in line with SBS’s larger commitment to delivering the news that matters, when it matters, to every Australian. By providing clear, reader-friendly presentations, the group hopes to reach and educate a more diverse public.
