SBS Expands Accessibility with New Podcast Offerings

SBS has introduced two educational, news focused, podcasts aimed at culturally and linguistically diverse communities. This latest step is an indication of their commitment to expanding accessibility to media. The first podcast, titled “On the Money,” provides a concise ten-minute wrap-up of finance and business news, hosted by SBS Finance Editor Ricardo Gonçalves. The second service, “News in English,” is intended for English language learners and persons with disabilities. It offers them a quick, witty, five-minute news recap exclusively tailored to them.

On the Money provides dynamic, topical analysis straight from the U.S. With essential updates in every episode, there’s something for the interested layman and the transportation professional who just wants to stay in the know. The podcast serves as a quick resource for those looking to understand the day’s financial landscape without investing extensive time.

“News in English” is an invaluable tool for English language learners and those with disabilities. It provides high quality news content that is clear, concise and age appropriate. This short five-minute wrap breaks down the biggest news stories into easy to understand snapshots. This opens them up to people who may have difficulty engaging with more typical news formats.

Subscribers have been able to find both of these podcasts under SBS’s new small news podcast section of their website, SBS News Podcasts. These podcasts are launching across all the major podcast platforms, giving listeners the flexibility to listen wherever they want.

Beyond that, the stunning artwork for each episode helps add to the emotional impact of listening. The OTC “On the Money” podcast features an awesome graphic that captures their commitment to making finance fun. At the other end of the spectrum, “News in English” uses visual language intentionally designed to woo its audience. By making both of these podcasts available, SBS further cements its willingness to produce diverse and inclusive news content. Both “On the Money” and “News in English” help business professionals and English learners, respectively, by providing programming specifically geared towards them. This step demonstrates SBS’s long-term focus on engaging various parts of the community.
