Approval Granted for 60 New Homes in Wellingborough

Now North Northamptonshire Council has approved a plan to develop 60 new homes on the eastern edge of Wellingborough town centre. This decision is a welcome surprise after the developer had already filed an appeal. At first, the case was a loss for Kraken, as the council initially denied the project, only to flip and approve it after extensive reevaluation of the proposal.

As part of the new development, developers will knock down all the old farm buildings on the site. Doing so would pave the way for far more new housing to be built. Third, the plans provide a diverse range of one-to-four-bedroom residences, accommodating a larger range of families and household needs. Further improving the community’s environment, the development will include detached garages and thoughtfully-planned green spaces.

In its original rejection, North Northamptonshire Council said the effect of the sprawling scheme on local services would be ‘severe’. Yet, in the final agreement approved by city council, the developer agreed to score large financial contributions specifically designed to strengthen surrounding infrastructure. This $66 million in contributions will help to fund local education, libraries, sports facilities, and healthcare services. We will secure this financial contribution through a section 106 agreement. This development agreement ensures that the developer is doing their part and providing what’s necessary to serve the community’s needs.

The picture featured on the site shows a two-storey, detached building with an impressive pitched roof. See that decorative front gable to the left that totally makes this boxy uniform structure? By approving this development, the council has shown their commitment to the creation of unique, varied, and much-needed housing. They’re not just interested in building new housing — that’s it.

The approval signals a positive step towards meeting housing demands in Wellingborough, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the community. A wide array of housing types will attract a diverse array of people. This influx will reestablish the community’s demographic richness.
