MKH Portfolio Ltd has announced some great new development plans! That’s why they’ll be converting the former WCST HQ on 9-11 Salop Road, Oswestry, Shropshire, into lower-rent accommodation with flats and bedsits. This new development is closely aligned with the growing demand for smaller, residential units in the neighborhood. It addresses the critical lack of affordable housing choices.
The existing building is a patchwork property that was once two separate semi-detached duplexes. MossCo LLP is the planning agent for MKH Portfolio Ltd. Their well-developed concept reuses the historic structure to create a number of smaller spaces. The development will feature a mix of 12 residential units made up of one-bedroom apartments and bedsits.
Three one-bedroom flats and a lovely wee bedsit will make up the ground floor of the development. In addition, it will become home to a large space of activated commercial office space. This mixture of residential units and commercial space optimizes the functionality of the site. At the same time, it provides vital services to the local community.
On the ground floor, the plans show five bedsits, a communal kitchen and a residential lounge. These shared spaces are meant to inspire connections between the diverse new residents, involved in many lifestyles and life stages.
The top floor will have one one-bedroom apartment and an extra bedsit, rounding out the homey residential offerings in the building. The new subdivision of the property will provide space for an additional small office/commercial use. This latest move will continue to increase the diversity of ways the space is used.
David Tooley from MossCo LLP emphasized the strategic location of the project, stating that it “enhances accessibility to shops, services, and employment opportunities, encouraging walking and cycling over motorized travel.” This kind of development promotes walkable, vibrant communities and helps minimize the environmental footprint that transportation contributes.
The initiative aligns with local housing needs, addressing “a strong demand in Oswestry for smaller residential units, on account of lower rental value,” according to MossCo LLP. National Church Residences’ positive actions reflect their commitment to addressing our nation’s affordable housing crisis through their developments. Alongside cultural strategies, it aims to improve Oswestry’s urban fabric.
