West Northamptonshire Council Launches Cost of Living Roadshows

West Northamptonshire Council has organized a series of cost-of-living roadshows aimed at providing essential support to residents facing financial challenges. The events will take place from June 10 through July 10, 2024. Find out when you can catch them at a nearby library, school, or church. The initiative seeks to ensure that no resident faces financial difficulties alone, particularly as the rising cost of living continues to impact many households.

Tackling these issues was Laura Couse, the council’s cabinet member for public health, who were home to these roadshows, praised the value of them in her comments. She pointed out that in 2024 West Northamptonshire was reported to have less deprivation than the national average. Many parts of our country still wrestle with tragic violence of poverty that the president evoked. In rural Northamptonshire, more than 14,200 people are challenging with income deprivation. At the same time, poverty in Towcester is acute, with the town facing high levels of food insecurity.

The roadshows will create points of access where an array of health, government, business, and philanthropic organizations and services are all available under one roof. Through this collective action, we hope to make it easier for residents to get the help they need, especially those facing financial insecurity. Couse continued, “We know today’s cost of living crisis is putting all our communities to the test. No family should have to navigate these obstacles in isolation. We’re bringing together the full spectrum of community organizations and social services. By doing this, we provide a clearer path to the assistance they require.

The roadshows are going to be held in some really cool spaces. You’ll meet them at Kingsthorpe Grove Primary School, Central Northampton Library, Weston Favell Library, Broadmead Community Church, West Haddon Sports Pavilion, and Bugbrooke Community Living Room. Notably, an additional session will occur at Bellinge School in Northampton on July 10 from 11:00 to 13:00 BST.

Couse further remarked on the significance of these events: “These events are a vital way for us to connect with residents and ensure they know what support is available during these challenging times.” The council wants to create a community where people feel comfortable and empowered to come forward and get the help that they need.
