The Winter Toy Appeal is out to make sure that no child goes without a new toy this Christmas. Meridian Collaboration Jenna Fansa and Vicky Bibiris Jenna and Vicky co-founded this crucial endeavor. The collective action is focused on delivering new gifts to children living in extraordinary hardship. It especially aims to benefit the communities within Hackney and Haringey, two of the most deprived boroughs in England. This year, the appeal is set on making sure that it’s still possible to spread joy to children this holiday season. Despite the rocky beginning, the mission is still a go.
The Winter Toy Appeal originated from Jenna Fansa’s desire to address the disparity faced by children who do not receive presents during the festive season due to poverty. To respond to this challenge, the appeal has provided over 37,000 presents since its inception. On an annual basis, it’s able to supply anywhere from 3,000 to as many as 5,000 gifts.
This year, the appeal has its sights on making sure even more children like little Isabella don’t go without. Shifting the spotlight to Hackney and Haringey would be important because thousands of families in these boroughs are living on the edge. From the very beginning, the community has come out time after time with overwhelming support for the Winter Toy Appeal. It is their deep dedication though that truly transforms the lives of the children they serve.
In light of the slow start this year, Fansa and Bibiris are urging community members to contribute to the appeal. In addition, they promote the importance of each gift, even those under $10.
“Just by purchasing a small toy …you’ll make a difference to a child that otherwise doesn’t have that spark of joy the children experience at this time of year.” – Vicky Bibiris
These are both founders who want to light the way for others. They hope to inspire others to partner with them in bringing new gifts to children who would otherwise go without.
Jenna Fansa remarked on the impact of the appeal’s efforts:
“Since it started we’ve given out 37,000 gifts to children – typically 3-5,000 each year.” – Ms Fansa
