Celebrating Australian Voices and Cultures Online

A new site focused entirely on these Australian stories, conversations, and events just went live. It’s intended to give us all a greater understanding of the varied experiences and perspectives in our country. This imaginative, comprehensive rollout marries artistic practice with lived experience in celebration of the current multicultural Australia— vibrant, layered, complex. Informed by the rich culture, achievements and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, celebrating them as the First Australians.

The website’s goal is to challenge you and expand your knowledge of the country’s past. It demonstrates too the ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous peoples today. This statement pays respect to their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and acknowledges them as the First Peoples of Australia. It honors their deep and ongoing relationship with the land on which communities live, learn, and work.

By releasing this website, its authors acknowledge this obligation and intention to include and honour Australia’s First Nations people. The site will feature a rich mix of original and curated content. There, you’ll discover interviews, articles, and multimedia presentations that highlight and respect Indigenous cultures and perspectives. This holistic method engages the rest of the community but elevates voices that haven’t often been heard — and that’s important!

Moreover, the website is designed to be a digital space for conversations that matter to Australians from all walks of life. It’s equally as much about engagement and participation, asking users to upload their own stories and experiences that contribute to Australian culture. As such, it hopes to foster a sense of belonging and community shared experience that goes beyond the physical visit.

The website’s creators know that recognizing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is more than just a statement. In doing so, it becomes a potent call to action. They emphasize the importance of respecting the Traditional Custodians of the land while promoting awareness about their histories, languages, and customs.

The whole national initiative is part of a growing movement across Australia to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous cultures. The new website provides a new home that’s specifically focused on these narratives. This encourages a continuous process of listening, learning and understanding between First Nations people and the broader Australian community.
