Forecasters are predicting chaotic weather on the Australian cities of Perth, Brisbane and Sydney. Residents should prepare for varying levels of rainfall over the next few days. Other regions can expect significantly drier than average conditions. Now meteorologists are focusing on what these forecasts mean. Particularly as farmers and ranchers in these states remain acutely aware of their recent past with respect to changing rainfall patterns.
Perth this morning is forecast to receive 7-25mm of rain today. Tomorrow though, 1 to 5mm of rain with an expected tapering off to between 0mm and 1mm. The dry trend continues into Friday and Saturday. Flooding rainfall estimates remain low, between 0mm and 1mm Friday and 0mm to 4mm Saturday. As the week progresses, conditions will change. The forecast for Sunday, 29 January 2023, shows between 6mm and 25mm of rain possible Sunday followed by Monday with another 1mm to 15mm possible.
Perth’s Rainfall Forecast
Meteorological specialists have just warned that swathed past Perth will almost surely are available in torrential rainfall. Bunbury and Geraldton should get about 50mm through the next three days. This prediction follows a period of Perth’s winter months recording more than double the average rainfall totals. The last time these sweltering extremes faced Perth was 1996.
She emphasized the importance of thinking about this amount of rain over a period of several days. The land is already saturated, adding to the alarming urgency of this moment.
“We’re not expecting massively high rainfall totals necessarily, although some areas will see some higher falls.”
Brisbane’s forecast for today calls for anywhere from 5mm to 35mm of rain. Tomorrow’s expectations are a bit worse – generally in the 9mm to 40mm range. By Friday, the city should get a reprieve, with precipitation totals reduced to between 0mm and 15mm rain expected.
Brisbane’s Weather Update
Late winter is usually one of the driest times of the year for Sydney and the New South Wales coast. Thanks to those magnanimous givers, this year is shaping up to be different. Tom Saunders, a weather expert, remarked:
He pointed out that as of late Monday, the Observatory Hill weather station had already recorded almost three times the monthly average of rainfall. This added up to around 80mm.
“Late winter is normally one of the driest times of year for Sydney and the NSW coast.”
In Sydney, the picture is just as variable as Brisbane’s forecast. Residents should prepare for significant rainfall today. From 5mm to over 30mm of rain are expected. Tomorrow looks like a much harder rain. Anywhere from 35mm to 60mm is being estimated. Friday’s forecast shows the potential for at least another 1mm to 20mm of light rain.
Sydney’s Rainfall Predictions
When you consider the cumulative effect over these four days, we could see total rainfall of up to 110mm locally. Australian meteorologists are forecasting one more front to push through the state of Western Australia this weekend. So, the combined influence of this system is likely to increase rainfall totals across the entire south-west region even more.
Nate Byrne pointed out that weather conditions are active on both sides of the country:
Residents in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney need to be ready for severe thunderstorms, tropical cyclones and flooding. Avoid being caught unprepared. Stay educated by following their social media to begin with and understand what local meteorological services had planned.
“We’ve got a bit going on on both sides of the country today.”
With these forecasts in mind, residents across Perth, Brisbane, and Sydney are urged to prepare for varying weather conditions and to stay informed about updates from local meteorological services.
