A 32-year-old man from Maroochydore may be subjected to life-altering legal repercussions. He faces a total of 146 charges including filming at least 40 people autonomously, including minors, inside their homes on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. The charges spanned from late 2021 through February 2025. It is unacceptable that this lack of communication endangered the privacy and safety of the entire community.
On Wednesday, police arrested the man after a months-long investigation. Following a tip, officers executed a search warrant of his home in February 2025 where they found child exploitation material. The man’s phone had pictures and recordings of some 40 victims. Most of these recordings were captured through the glass of their apartments.
Detectives found that the man had victimized 23 people—all of them women or children—before turning to the “predatory” practice of soliciting sex from minors. He is currently charged with 29 counts of illegal recording in violation of privacy. On top of that, he’s got five counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, one count to a child under 12 and a count of stalking.
“People should not have to fear a breach of privacy in the comfort of their own home,” stated Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Lowry, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and the importance of ensuring community safety.
The investigation finds that the man may have committed this misconduct for years. To protect his political career, this has increased the concern of local community members about the risk his actions could bring. The police have ongoing investigations to find if there are more victims or more evidence tied to this case.
