Adelaide Triumphs Over Brisbane in Rain-Soaked Showdown

Adelaide secured a thrilling victory over Brisbane in a dramatic contest at the rain-soaked Adelaide Oval, winning 10.8 to 8.15. Adelaide ran home with a scintillating final period of play to claim a memorable victory. They came alive with five unanswered goals in less than 18 minutes to win their way, on percentage, into the AFL top four.

The visitors jumped out to a 2.3 to 0.6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lions were unstoppable in the first half, establishing a 21-point advantage halfway through the second quarter. They took eight perfect scoring chances and converted all of them into goals. Cam Rayner and Charlie Cameron added two apiece for the Lions, displaying an electric offensive attack.

Riley Thilthorpe ignited an Adelaide comeback before half-time with a fantastic goal on the run from a difficult angle. His attacking play set off a tidal wave of scoring, including goals to Keays, Dawson and Rachele in succession, providing the home side with an 11-point lead.

And in spite of Brisbane’s early success on offense, they couldn’t keep the foot on the accelerator. In that last term our boys kicked a dreadful 0.8 as Adelaide ran riot – finishing with a five goal quarter to take the match. Or a heart-stopping moment when Callum Ah Chee thought he’d scored, only to be overruled by the umpires. He made up for it almost immediately though, scoring just 60 seconds later to add to Adelaide’s final score.

Brisbane controlled the inside-50 count for the last 15 minutes, finishing the fourth quarter with 20 entries to Adelaide’s eight. They were unable to turn this advantage into scoring chances. Jordan Dawson set the Adelaide Oval alight by bringing down this brilliant mark-of-the-year contender. He would go on to seal the game with a high quality opportunistic goal.

The game was a great representation of the highs and lows of AFL, as both sides were electric and agonizing to watch.

“You’ll never be able to overrule this. Impossible.” – Matthew Richardson

“No chance you’re turning it over from there — that soft call is huge. There’s no other angle; that’s it.” – James Brayshaw
