Australia has formally announced their world-beating line up of athletes. After these performances, they are certainly looking forward to challenge in multiple disciplines at next month’s World Championships in Tokyo. This team, made up of veterans and rookies, has a great chance to leave their mark as the best ever on the international stage.
Connor Murphy will be proudly wearing the green and gold when he represents Australia in the triple jump. In other news, Matthew Denny is set up to wreck shop in the discus. Cameron McEntyre will be throwing the javelin, and his best will definitely put him in contention for a top spot in an incredibly competitive qualifying field.
In endurance events, Andrew Buchanan and Tim Vincent and debutant Liam Boudin are under starters orders to run the marathon. They hope to test their mettle on the demanding course soon to come. Meanwhile, Rhydian Cowley, Declan Tingay, and Tim Fraser will participate in the 20km race walk, bringing their skills and experience to the forefront.
In the 50km race walk, Rhydian Cowley will be joined by team mates Will Thompson and Mitchell Baker. Their involvement brings a focus to Australia’s aim of doing particularly well in the race walking events.
Australia’s relay teams also boast significant talent. Caleb Law, Rohan Browning and Connor Bond represent the Saints in the men’s 4x100m relay national squad. The 4x400m relay squad consists of Reece Holder, Cooper Sherman, Aidan Murphy, Thomas Reynolds, Terrell Thorne, Luke van Ratingen, and Augustine Nketia Jr. Whichever team comes out on top, we’re sure they’ll perform jaw-dropping feats!
On the women’s side, infield, high jumpers Nicola Olyslagers, Eleanor Patterson and Emily Whelan are ready to reach new heights. Olyslagers expressed her aspirations for the championships, stating:
“This season has been a great build-up for Tokyo. I do want to do another personal best, but I haven’t put a limit on what that is because I want to trust God for the greater heights.” – Nicola Olyslagers
Nina Kennedy sure does look like an athlete set to perform a powerful pole vault! On the women’s side, watch Samantha Dale and Delta Amidzovski flourish in the long jump. Desleigh Owusu will join Connor Murphy in representing Team Indiana in the triple jump.
The discus will be one to watch too, with our Taryn Gollshewsky going up against Matthew Denny. In throwing events, Stephanie Ratcliffe and Lara Roberts will compete with the Australian team in hammer throw. Makenzie Little and Lianna Davidson will both go in javelin as well.
