Big Freeze 11 Celebrates Iconic Australians While Honoring Aaron Daniher

This year Big Freeze 11 will be flicking the switch on the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). It’s an annual event that puts the spotlight on and raises much-needed funds for motor neurone disease (MND). The event, which acknowledges the contributions of “iconic Australians,” will include a special reflection on Neale Daniher. So it’s no surprise that he was just recently named Australian of the Year. Celebrities such as Matt Nable, Mark Taylor, Peter Daicos and Ariarne Titmus are willing to dive into frigid waters. They are one of the sliders getting ready to take that bold challenge!

This year’s event is particularly special emotionally. Matt Nable certainly does, saying he felt it deeply, having established a strong friendship with the Daniher family and the FightMND movement following Aaron Daniher’s death. Aaron learned he had MND in July 2022 and died in March 2024 at 46 years old. It was a personal connection that inspired Nable to approach the Daniher family and FightMND soon after Aaron’s death to offer his help.

Nable said he felt a profound sense of loss, especially with Big Freeze 11 coming up. He shared, “I’ve missed him this last week so very much.” He began to think about how boxing affected Aaron’s life.

“Boxing unearthed a toughness in Aaron that kept him alive. His fight will never be forgotten.” – Matt Nable

Our Big Freeze fundraising event pays tribute to the amazing spirit of everyone who has battled MND. Come out and celebrate their spirit with us as we lift them up! This year’s theme of iconic Australians celebrates those that have, in some way, helped shape our great country. It showcases Daniher’s legacy and his continuing battle against the disease.

In a special treat for fans, Neale Daniher will join Hamish McLachlan for a unique edition of Unfiltered on Wednesday night, providing insights into his journey and the importance of community support in fighting MND.

In the lead-up to Big Freeze 11, all of the participants have carried an immense emotional weight. Participants are very mindful of what this event means, particularly given recent events unfolding around the Daniher family.
