Bobby Hill Omitted from Preliminary Final as Collingwood Welcomes Veteran Back

Collingwood’s dynamic small forward Bobby Hill, 25, has been left out of the preliminary final against Brisbane, despite displaying promising signs during training. The decision has left many fans scratching their heads, especially considering Hill’s dynamic, electric playing style and potential impact on game day. Coach Craig McRae was clear that the decision was not only based on football. He made it clear that they extensively tested Hill’s preparedness for the pressure-filled contest.

In a statement explaining Hill’s exclusion, McRae said it was a tough choice. He noted, “It was really difficult – I told him before training … it was a conversation that was hard for him to hear but it was a reality of right now with his preparation and credit to him he trained really, really well which shows how far he’s come in the last little period.” That’s because Hill has been putting on a show in practice. While he expressed every intention to go, the coaching staff made the call to be cautious with him in terms of game fitness.

Hill’s not going to be in this important fixture. McRae is hopeful Hill can play a part in the grand final—with Collingwood to give him every chance to return if they qualify. “He’s working hard to get back and this is not permanent, but this week he’s not available,” he stated, leaving the door open for Hill’s return in future games.

Jeremy Howe to return to Collingwood lineup! This will be his first action since he pulled a groin muscle fumbling the ball in the preseason. Howe replaces Roan Steele, who was subbed out in that qualifying final. This shift represents a massive increase for Collingwood as they prepare for battle against Brisbane. Useful experience and skill means profitably shoring up the foundation of the team’s emerging structure on defense.

Wil Parker, another player affected by the recent shakeup who was on the brink of reaching the preliminary final. After a stellar form stint, he dropped 12 disposals in the qualifying final win over Adelaide. At 23 years old, Parker’s exclusion highlights the competitive nature of team selection as Collingwood gears up for crucial matches.

For their part, Geelong has done the opposite and stuck with the same team. Hawthorn has followed suit in the lead-in to their own preliminary final showdown. Plus, Rhys Stanley has been added as an emergency for Geelong, giving strong depth in the case of any last-minute changes.
