Charlie Spargo Hospitalized After Shoulder Injury During Elimination Final

Charlie Spargo, a top prospect for the Melbourne Football Club, had his shoulder torn from his socket during an elimination final game versus Williamstown. He recounted the ordeal as one of “unimaginable agony. The play happened in the third quarter after Spargo missed on a tackle attempt, leading to a dislocated right shoulder. Though able to walk off the field under his own power, he was cradling his arm and showing all the signs of a man in serious pain.

It hasn’t been an easy season for the 25-year-old forward. His sole season at the club saw him play in nine senior games before succumbing to the injury. This disappointment came after a personally frustrating year in 2022, where he played just one game due to a torn Achilles. In comparison, Spargo enjoyed a strong 2021 campaign, featuring in all 25 matches as Melbourne secured the premiership crown.

After sustaining the foot injury, he was immediately transported to the same hospital by ambulance for additional assessment and treatment. His injury severity issues make him an enormous question mark for the remainder of the season. It leaves questions about his continued employment with the club moving forward.

“Unable to get dislocated right shoulder back in place. Incredibly painful,” – Charlie Spargo

Spargo’s last run on the field came against St Kilda in Round 20. His future is now in limbo as he is out of contract at the end of the season. As an unrestricted free agent, that means he is free to explore other clubs at will. If he decides to move on from Melbourne, his possibilities are limitless.

Spargo has a depth of experience on the field too, with 108 senior games under his belt since joining the league. This builds upon his impressive résumé and highlights his passion and talent. With his current injuries and expiring contract, he’s not in a position to play freely, and is now considering his options more closely.

>Reports indicate that many of his AFL teammates expressed concern for him after the injury, heading into the rooms to check on his condition. The emotional support of her teammates shines a light on the bond this team shares as they go through this painful moment in their season together.
