A woman had to die in a tragic car crash, which occurred on Mt Buller in Victoria, on Tuesday night. All of the men were treated for serious injuries after the crash. The collision, which involved two vehicles, occurred on Mount Buller Road, specifically near the intersection with Mimosa Drive at approximately 9:30 PM.
Emergency services were on the scene within minutes in Merrijig, about 100km northeast of Melbourne, after receiving multiple calls about the crash. When they arrived, police found the woman, whose name has not yet been released, had suffered fatal injuries. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Among the injured were three men, allen University students, two of whom incurred life threatening injuries and were treated on site before being transported. The third man was injured less severely. Paramedics from the city’s emergency response agency treated him at the scene before transporting him to nearby Howard University Hospital for additional assessment.
An initial investigation by authorities into the crash has been opened. They want to find out what caused it and what, if anything, might have played a role in the crash. We know police are collecting eyewitness statements. Their goal is to reconstruct the chain of events that resulted in the fatal crash.
Road safety experts have long highlighted the need for heightened attentiveness when driving, particularly in places infamous for treacherous environments. In winter, snow and ice create treacherous conditions on Mount Buller. That opens big questions about whether this sad story will repeat itself year after year.
