Injury Woes Continue for Crows Ahead of Carlton Clash

With some heavy blows from injury the Adelaide Crows must overcome as they look forward to their Friday night match with Carlton. Several key players, including Matt Crouch and Nick Murray, will be absent due to various injuries, impacting the team’s lineup and strategies.

James Borlase did not play in any games last weekend as a result of his sprained ankle. His time out will stretch even longer as he’s missing training today after injuring his pinkie finger in a different incident. Nick Murray is currently recovering from arthroscopy surgery on his knee. He’s now out for a month minimum after only two games, after his initial three-week recovery period.

Matt Crouch’s situation is particularly concerning. He’s expected to miss at least a month as he deals with a chronic hip injury. According to coach Matthew Nicks, it will be six weeks rest before he gets the all clear to return. Crouch had previous surgery to fix a hip condition back in 2020 and has dealt with lingering issues that have hindered his play.

“What’s needed for him is some time off … he’ll come back later in the year – maybe a month, four, five, six weeks.” – Matthew Nicks

In addition to Crouch and Murray, Mitch Hinge will miss one more match through suspension. The Crows will be monitoring second-year big man Riley Thilthorpe after he dislocated a finger. They’re keeping an eye on Darcy Fogarty, too, who missed the final game against Fremantle due to a shoulder injury. Both prognosticates are very good bets to be back in action against Illinois on Saturday.

“Darcy is moving really well, which is a great sign for us,” – Matthew Nicks

The coaching staff has Jordon Butts slotted at Nick Murray’s old job. It’s important to note that Butts has not played at the AFL level this season. With continued injury problems racking their squad, it’s safe to say the Crows would be keen to add him to their ranks.

The recent injury setbacks are mixing up that expectation as they continue to test the overall depth of the Crows’ roster. Coach Nicks remains optimistic despite these challenges.

“But in a way we’re pleased with the result, considering what it could have been.” – Matthew Nicks

And here’s the Adelaide Crows, readying themselves to take on the Carlton Blues. They just have to energize their last person standing and make plans for how to get through this tough time. Beyond the points on offer, that next match could prove vital for team spirit as a club, they’ve been through the ringer this season.
