Jeremy Cameron Shines with Career-High 11 Goals in Geelong’s Victory

Jeremy Cameron delivered a standout performance on Saturday night at Marvel Stadium, kicking a career-high 11 goals in Geelong’s emphatic 101-point victory over North Melbourne. Cameron did not just stun everyone with his extraordinary talent. Now sitting on 69 goals for the season, he’s put a huge two-gamer stamp on his best-ever Coleman Medal finish – of that, I’m sure.

Forward Cameron also wasted no time making his imprint on the match, scoring three times in the first ten minutes. His tireless chasing down of the ball and clinical striking behind the shot had the other team completely unable to handle him. Cameron took advantage of each opportunity as his teammates repeatedly assisted him. He displayed his elite shot-creating prowess from all levels.

Cameron scored late in the second quarter to add to his first-half total putting him at five goals in just the first two quarters. During the third quarter, he continued his positive offensive momentum. He drilled in four others, finishing up with an incredible long set shot just as the siren went. Cameron matched his old career-high by netting nine goals. He wasn’t done there; just minutes later, he scored his 11th goal of the season to put the finishing touches on a dream night.

Cameron’s remarkable success catapulted him into rarified air as one of the best players in his specific position. He now joins the likes of Lance Franklin, Jack Riewoldt and Josh Kennedy, with 11 or more goals in a game during the 18-team era. Additionally, he logged a personal career high of 43 possessions during the game, demonstrating his two-way contributions to Gold Coast that night.

Celebrating his performance, Geelong’s coach Chris Scott pointed to how important teamwork has been to Cameron’s achievements.

“Right from the start, he looked sharp and took his chances early,” – Chris Scott

Scott itself acknowledged that Cameron was dangerous the entire evening. He attributed this not only to the depth of support within Cameron’s team, but the intensifying pressure to perform.

“He was dangerous all night, but part of that was the others who are in there too.” – Chris Scott

In addition to Cameron’s stellar performance, Geelong’s Shannon Neale contributed significantly with four goals, illustrating the team’s collective effort in securing the commanding win.

Watching from the bench during this impressive display was Geelong’s skipper, Patrick Dangerfield, who humorously opted for a souvlaki while witnessing Cameron’s brilliance on the field.

No player has scored 100 goals in a season since 1999, but Jeremy Cameron has a realistic chance this season to reach that incredible milestone. He’ll be taking on Port Adelaide, Essendon, Sydney, and Richmond in the home stretch. He is starting to hit his stride. As he moves along toward this lofty goal, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the suspense builds.
