Here’s the kicker — Foran is an incredible talent in the rugby league and just agreed to an enormous contract. He is set to retire in the National Rugby League (NRL) at the conclusion of this season. Foran has had a remarkable career lasting more than 20 years. This coming September, he’ll conclude with almost 315 NRL games, when he plays his final match with the Gold Coast Titans.
Foran’s experience in the world of professional rugby league has built a spirit of resilience and just plain refusal to give up. He has played for five different clubs since turning pro in 2009. He reached the significant milestone of 300 games last year, showcasing his longevity in a sport known for its physical demands.
As Foran looked back and learned from his career, he admitted he put himself in challenging predicaments. Six years ago, a serious shoulder injury nearly derailed all of that. Despite this major injury, he rebounded to land a last chance career lifeline under coach Des Hasler at Manly in 2021. His second coming to Brookvale was just as successful, with Barrett guiding a revitalised Manly to a preliminary final in his first season back.
Throughout his career, Foran won a premiership at just 21 years old while partnering with Daly Cherry-Evans, making them one of the youngest combinations in NRL history to capture a title. He would leave the Eels for the Warriors after only one season. In 2016, Parramatta tempted him home with a rich four-year contract. By late 2022, he was tripped up as they got sandwiched out of the club. This disappointing moment fueled his desire to further his future on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Foran said “I want to pay tribute to all my teammates from those clubs, and of course the supporters and fans who supported me while representing their club shields.
As Foran approaches retirement age, making his decision known was a relief to Foran.
He emphasized the need to get it enshrined in writing. That will allow him to enjoy the last stretch of the season to the fullest.
Foran shared his thoughts on the uncertainty he faced over the past few years: “In a way I came into the season feeling like it could potentially be my last but in saying that, it’s been my last year for the past five years.” He continued, “I think for the last five years, I’ve thought that it could just be over. There’s always been that other side of me that’s been going after even greater success.”
Titans chief executive Steve Mitchell hailed Foran’s immense contribution to the club’s breakthrough campaign. He noted Foran’s positive impact on the field and in Kingston’s communities. Foran’s leadership and experience have certainly left an indelible mark on the Titans and the wider rugby league community.
“Foran concluded his announcement with a look toward the future: I’ll be hanging the boots up at the end of the season and moving onto the next phase of my life.”
