Kostecki Sets the Pace Ahead of Bathurst 1000 with Record-Breaking Qualifying

Brodie Kostecki is killing it in the Supercars world! That’s because he just snared provisional pole for the 60th running of the immensely popular Bathurst 1000, at famed Mount Panorama. The 2023 Supercars champion took last year’s Bathurst win with Erebus. He set a blistering lap time of two minutes and 4.030 seconds, resetting his own qualifying record by 0.241 seconds!

Kostecki’s performance has positioned him ahead of championship leader Broc Feeney, who drives a Chevrolet Camaro, as excitement builds for Sunday’s Great Race. Kostecki’s remarkable speed highlights his skill and emphasizes the growing rivalry between the Chevrolet and Ford teams in this year’s competition.

Kostecki is far from content with the current competitive Supercars’ landscape. He pointed out that Ford drivers could face significant challenges during the Bathurst 1000, reflecting on the ongoing discussions surrounding engine deficiencies within the sport. Unfortunately, over the past few years, they’ve put the sport in jeopardy,” Kostecki said, referring to the frustration felt by some members of the field.

Kostecki has emerged as a pivotal figure in the ongoing debates regarding the performance comparisons between the Camaro and Mustang. His insights reveal that though he understands and appreciates the strengths of other teams, there are critical issues that must be tackled now. He said, ‘If I see something’s wrong with the data or there is a disparity, I’m going to correct it.’

Ryan, another well-respected personality in the Supercars community, voiced agreement with Kostecki’s concerns about dangerous directions being taken in the sport. He expressed his annoyance at persistent attacks from Ford Op-eds. “They just don’t want to do anything except complain,” he said. “To claim responsiveness, I honestly think they’re just making it up.” His remarks highlight a recent and increasing friction in the paddock as teams make their way down the double edged sword of competition regulation.

Ryan took aim at a few Ford teams for their attitude towards the direction of the sport today. Above all, he stressed the importance of continued discussion and collaboration to serve the good of the game. “If I was on team Ford, I’d be the first to go, ‘Whoa, hold your horses, guys, let’s all get back to work and let’s just race the cars, OK,’” he continued.

The competitive environment in and around the Bathurst 1000 is becoming bitterly contested. Teams are preparing themselves for what is sure to be an action-packed, thrilling race! Today, Kostecki is continuing to raise that charge, with a mixture of confidence and concern. Whether Goshen’s fans or competitors, all will be eagerly awaiting as the action unfolds.
