Mackenzie Little, Australian athlete and doctor, announced one recent milestone that was just as amazing. She captured a bronze medal at the World Championships in Budapest in 2025! The 28-year-old javelin thrower, who finished last in the final at the Paris Olympics, showcased her determination and resilience, making this victory all the more significant.
Little was first to the mat in the final and opened with a massive throw of 63.58 meters in round one. Her opening salvo was so energetic and fierce that it immediately raised the stakes for her entire speech. This momentum propelled her to a second consecutive podium finish at a world championship event. Her last medal was at the 2023 world championships, where she won bronze.
Little looked back warmly on her travels. She has referred to the medal as her redemption, by way of failing to contend at the Olympics. Primarily, she insisted that this victory is less about today and more about what she can do, on and off, during the entire season.
She expressed happiness at her victory, calling it “a recognition of all the efforts I’ve made this season, which has been a tough and isolated path.”
Outside of her athletic commitments though, Little has been balancing her medical career. Only a week before taking home that medal, she was treating patients in her emergency department. There, she performed a heroic act of saving a man’s life while he was experiencing a heart attack. This incredible and life-saving act exemplifies her commitment, not just to athletics, but to her profession.
I think I make the best music when I’m at my personal peak of happiness & optimism & fulfillment in life. Currently, I’ve created a life where my work is deeply fulfilling, which brings out the best in me as an athlete and as a physician, sage, she shared.
Little’s accomplishments are a testament to what one is able to achieve and an inspiration to all. She joined the Australian team for the Tokyo world titles, and her recent success reaffirms her position as a strong competitor on the international stage.
If you had asked me two days ago, I would have been ecstatic to hear that I got a medal today!” she shouted excitedly. Her victory does have profound emotional meaning for her.
