Novak Djokovic Shines in Charity Match Ahead of Australian Open

Novak Djokovic showed why he’s considered by many to be the GOAT in a practice session against Frances Tiafoe. He ended up winning handily, 6-3, 6-4. The one-sided contest at Melbourne Park was over in a little more than 80 minutes. It provided Djokovic a shot of confidence as he attempts to claim an 11th Australian Open crown and an astonishing 25th Grand Slam win.

Throughout the match, Djokovic struck 22 winners but struggled with 17 unforced errors. His trademark running power was on full display, as he darted around the court with unmatched speed and finesse. After pulling out of the Adelaide International, he’s back on court. It’s a noteworthy performance, as it’s his first tour match since beating Lorenzo Musetti in the final of the Athens ATP event at the beginning of November.

Djokovic looks forward to taking part in the charity match. In doing so, he underscored how important match play is for his competitive preparation ahead of the tournament.

“I’m trying to get some match play, obviously it’s a practice match for charity and a great opportunity for us to get out on centre court and feel the environment,” – Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian tennis star reminded all young athletes to appreciate each moment they have on the court. Now at 38, he’s as driven as ever, and his passion for his work is infectious.

“I’m trying to remind myself to not take any moment on the court for granted. I’m just trying to remind myself of the joy I still have and a blessing to be able to play at this level at this age,” – Novak Djokovic.

In between sets, Djokovic shared a funny experience that happened during the match. One fan yelled, “Let’s go Roger,” right as he was about to serve at match point. To this, Djokovic responded with a dry chuckle, showing his skills at staying unfazed by the circus atmosphere.

With the tournament just around the corner, Djokovic looks like he will be facing Pedro Martinez in his first match. If he gets through the draw, he will likely face Italy’s Jannik Sinner in a much-anticipated semi-final shoot-out.
