Port Adelaide Shows Interest in Carlton Forward Jesse Motlop

Jesse Motlop, a 21-year-old small forward for Carlton, has attracted attention from rival club Port Adelaide as his contract talks with Carlton have stalled. Of all the expressions of interest, Port Adelaide’s is the most noteworthy. The Motlop family has very strong sentimental ties to the club. His older brother, Daniel Motlop, proved his own quality by playing 83 games for Port Adelaide between 2006-2011. During his tenure, he notched an outstanding cumulative 115 goals scored. If Jesse Motlop gets to Port Adelaide, it would reunite the extended Motlop clan at Alberton. This surprising return comes 14 years after Daniel’s retirement.

Although there is firm interest from Port Adelaide, Jesse Motlop likes the idea of staying with his brother at Carlton. The young forward has built a reputation for his strong work ethic and leadership in his season-and-a-half with the club. That said, negotiations to extend his contract have stalled, putting his future very much in doubt.

Brodie Kemp has signed a two-year contract extension with Carlton. The contract extension ensures that he will be around for at least four more seasons through 2027. The contract extension comes on the heels of Kemp’s breakout 2024 campaign. In his limited time he’s made a place for himself in that initial forward line.

Nick Austin, Carlton’s list manager, expressed his satisfaction with Kemp’s re-signing.

“We see a lot of promise in Brodie, so to have him re-sign is a real positive. He is coming off a consistent 2024 and was really finding a place in the forward line,” – Nick Austin.

Austin further commended Kemp for his ability to bounce back during a dark time caused by injury.

“Whilst we all felt for Brodie after his injury, we can’t fault his diligence and determination during a tough period. He has really attacked his rehab, so today’s announcement is a real testament to his positive mindset and desire to be the best player he can be,” – Nick Austin.

As the story continues, both teams could be tuning in to hear the fate of Jesse Motlop’s contract situation. The ongoing interest from Port Adelaide could add pressure on Carlton to resolve the contract talks soon and secure their promising forward for the future.
