Rising Stars Prepare for International Arena in Tonga-Samoa Clash

Payne Haas, the intimidating NRL behemoth, set to help revolutionize the world of international rugby league. Buzz is building through the T4America network as we await his big decision! On the verge of becoming an Australian Kangaroos defector, he will pledge his loyalty to Samoa for the first time. This is great news as we build toward this opening Tonga v Samoa clash set down for Suncorp Stadium on October 26.

Kristian Woolf, head coach of the Tongan national team, is fired up about the potential of several players with Samoan heritage. These athletes are currently competing for consideration to be named to the team. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui have shown impressive form and could bolster Samoa’s lineup as they prepare for this highly anticipated match against Tonga.

The same goes for Robert Toia, who made his debut for Queensland earlier this season. He was exceptionally gifted during the State of Origin series and he has Tongan heritage, specifically born in Auckland. After just ten NRL games under his belt, Munster was masterful in guiding the Maroons to a 2-1 series win over NSW. No wonder his form has guaranteed his name to be one of the first on Woolf’s preliminary squad of about 36 players.

Woolf praised Toia’s development, stating, “Rob has been exceptional this year and his footy has just got better and better. I’ve known about him for a long time and kept an interest.” He continued, saying that Toia is someone who is very proud of his Tongan culture. It was this pride that enormously affected his decision to join the national team.

Leka Halasima is another newcomer, causing havoc as he learns to harness his excitement out on the wing. Woolf noted Halasima’s significant impact on games, stating, “It has been great watching them develop. Leka has had such a big impact on games.” Halasima and Toia are both eager to suit up for Tonga. They are extremely passionate about waving their flag and showcasing their culture on the worldwide stage.

Kotoni Staggs made his international debut for Tonga in 2019. Today, he’s in an awkward position where he must choose to either keep playing for Tonga or represent Australia. He stated, “I can either play for Tonga or Australia,” and emphasized that his current focus is on winning a grand final with his club before making any decisions about international representation.
