Geelong Cats veteran Mitch Duncan has played a gloriously decorated 16-year career thus far. Now, he’s considering retiring from the sport. Duncan has strong connections to Geelong and is married with four children. With retirement looming, he even dropped a hint that he would be open to joining another team.
– Well, that was quite the comeback Duncan put on Sunday. He stepped onto the field in the VFL, appearing in Geelong’s reserves’ last game of the season. He showcased his skill by slotting a goal with his last kick of the match, contributing to Geelong’s 45-point victory over Sydney. Duncan tallied a career-best 21 disposals in the match, a testament to Duncan’s lasting ability on the football field.
Duncan has been an important player for Geelong, winning three AFL premierships during his career. He announced that 2025 will be his final year with the Cats. He admitted that talks with other organizations are underway.
That’s the most exciting part though, potentially, of all that’s happening. But clearly and hopefully, a lot of water will go under the bridge, ” added Duncan. He looked back at the doubt over his future in the AFL.
Despite his success and commitment to the team, he expressed doubt about continuing with Geelong next year. His family’s connection to Geelong, particularly through his wife’s family, adds a layer of complexity to his potential move.
Duncan looks forward to beginning this thrilling next chapter of his life. In his absence, he remains focused on having a massive impact in 2024, his last season eligible for the draft. The veteran midfielder’s experience and on‐field contributions helped earn him his recent status as a beloved figure with the Geelong community.
