Bluesky Enhances User Experience with New Notification Features

Bluesky has just rolled out three major changes that they hope will make it easier for users to manage notifications as of July 2, 2025. The shark was to give users a more personalized experience, and at the same time clear out notification centers and kill unwanted alerts. We announced these changes in a blog post called “More Control Over Notifications,” posted directly to the Bluesky platform.

The first big change comes with the old “priority notifications” function, which has been overhauled to make it easier and save on costs. This update allows users to customize their notifications based on their preferences, enabling them to focus on the activity that matters most to them. By simplifying the notification management, Bluesky hopes to foster a more engaging and enjoyable experience for users.

Further complicating the category, Bluesky recently added an “Everything Else” toggle, which includes your general notifications. This category includes alerts for recreational hunting and sport shooting activities. You’ll get alerted when someone joins through a Starter Pack or when there are news about verification status updates. These updates help users control these notifications so they know what’s happening, but only about the things they care about.

To reinforce user control even more, Bluesky lets users turn off activity notifications completely. During account creation, this new path for customization empowers users to narrow their notification scope for a more personalized experience. This introduces a barrier that could discourage them from turning on activity notifications for all of the accounts they wish to keep tabs on. This balance is intended to provide short trip users with the detailed information they desire, but a seamless experience for other users.

The announcement, published via Bluesky’s official blog, detailed the company’s determination to enhance its platform by developing tools for better management of harmful content. The updates reflect a growing trend within social media platforms to provide users with more control over their interaction and notification settings.
