Greptile Seeks Series A Funding, Aiming for $180 Million Valuation

Greptile, an innovative new AI code reviewing startup is currently in acquisition talks with Benchmark. They want to take the lead in Greptile’s upcoming Series A funding round, which could value the company at $180 million insiders say. Greptile CEO Daksh Gupta started the company soon after graduating from Georgia Tech in the spring of 2023. The startup has taken the tech world by storm.

In early 2024, Greptile was accepted into the highly selective Y Combinator winter cohort. This walk-through provided a huge increase to its exposure and legitimacy in the startup ecosystem. The company had raised a $4 million seed round before. With this funding, led by Initialized Capital, the tiny startup has a firm foundation underneath it for its continued expansion.

Greptile has developed a new cool bot that behaves like a clever work colleague. It has a strong investment in the knowledge of a customer’s code. For example, this is the technology that enables the bot to automatically flag bugs and other potential problems that human reviewers might miss. Daksh Gupta emphasized the bot’s capabilities in an interview with TechCrunch, stating that it possesses a “deep understanding of the customer’s code.”

The corporate culture at Greptile has recently come into the spotlight, thanks to reports on a grueling work environment. Gupta acknowledged on X in November that Greptile “offers no work-life balance,” reflecting the company’s commitment to maximum effort from all team members. According to a recent report, workers are on the job from 9 am through 11 pm, six and often seven days a week. Gupta has made this case in a number of interviews. Convincingly, his view is that “no one gives a damn about the third-best company, or god forbid the second-best company in any vertical in software.” If you’re going to half ass it, 95 percent is just as bad as 0 percent.

Because the arrangement between the Greptile and Benchmark is still under negotiation, terms are still in flux. This possible investment would be a big step for the startup. The competitive landscape just got even more exciting! Coderabbit recently closed an awesome $16 million Series A financing from CRV.

Marina Temkin, TechCrunch’s new venture capital and startups reporter has been following Greptile’s quest every step of the way. She’s deeply interested in understanding the changing nature of the startup ecosystem. Greptile is establishing itself as a player with innovative technology. Even with the intense competition, its future definitely seems bright.
