InDrive Aims to Transform into a Global Super App with Ambitious Expansion Plans

InDrive is the world’s fastest-growing major ride-hailing platform. Its ambition of being a global super app lies in expanding its services beyond just transportation. The inDrive app has surpassed 360 million downloads and completed 6.5 billion transactions globally. Since 2022, it’s been the second most downloaded ride-hailing app in the world, second only to Uber. The company has expanded its uncontested market to 982 cities in 48 countries. It’s number one in eight of those countries, giving it a strategic foundation to expand even more.

To deepen its footprint and increase user activity, InDrive recently rolled out a super-app strategy, focusing on frontier markets. This new initiative will enable the company to grow its offerings even further. It will extend well beyond today’s rides-hailing service to deliver everyday necessities that meet consumers’ changing needs. InDrive last month opened a new grocery delivery service in Kazakhstan. They guarantee you can get more than 5,000 products—with an emphasis on prepared foods—within 15 minutes or less!

Innovative Grocery Delivery Service in Kazakhstan

Unlike inDrive’s traditional grocery delivery service, which operates using the increasingly popular dark store model. This network strategy maximizes logistics and distribution efficiencies, ensuring the fastest possible delivery time. The service includes a huge selection of products, with about 10% made up of fresh products.

Kazakhstan, the largest economy in Central Asia, is a key hub for InDrive’s operations. Adding to its growth potential, the company last month announced a dramatic shift toward digital consumer behavior in the region. Since launching its grocery service, InDrive has added 30% more dark stores in Kazakhstan since August, reflecting its commitment to meeting local demand.

“We want to be city-specific, and it could be a bouquet of different services.” – Andries Smit

Such swift growth, particularly for InDrive’s recently launched delivery segment, has led to admirable outcomes. Last year, 2024, the company delivered more than 41 million gig order deliveries globally. Remarkably, more than 14 million of those orders occurred in just the second quarter of 2025. This successful move further highlights the impact of InDrive’s strategy to broaden its services and target a larger consumer demographic.

Strategic Investments and Future Expansion Plans

InDrive’s ambitions extend far beyond grocery delivery. WeChat’s parent company plans to double-down on super-app offerings in its most lucrative markets. And the firm will introduce additional services designed to meet local market requirements over the next year. They are individually and jointly going after countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Pakistan, Peru and Mexico.

With a promise of up to $100 million, InDrive is completely funding its aggressive plans. This investment will be done through its venture arm and merger and acquisition arm. In fact, about 30% of these funds have already been programmed to the super-app strategy. This strategic investment will further establish InDrive as a formidable player within the digital services ecosystem.

“If customers use you more frequently, then, of course, they stay longer, they’re more valuable in the ecosystem, and they’re just more loyal overall.” – Andries Smit

Beyond diversifying its service offerings, InDrive realizes that overcoming negative notions of safety is critical to attracting more users. Smit argued that drivers and passengers both require regular education to build a sense of trust inside the platform.

Addressing Consumer Needs and Market Dynamics

InDrive’s strategy goes beyond simply expanding services, it focuses on deeper insights into consumer behavior and market dynamics. Those changes in market trends have led the company to see competitors recently faltering where they’ve shifted in focus. This gives InDrive a unique opportunity to successfully recruit new riders.

“We’ve had sleeper markets where the markets sort of drifted, and then for whatever case, maybe one of the competitors falters.” – Andries Smit

Smit emphasized that InDrive serves a value-seeking consumer segment by delivering cost-oriented solutions. As an example, access to groceries continues to be an issue in many areas as we all are well aware. InDrive is addressing this disconnect with its new delivery services.

“By and large, we really support and play into a cost-conscious consumer.” – Andries Smit
