Intel Announces Leadership Changes with New CEO Lip-Bu Tan

Intel Corporation recently announced that Lip-Bu Tan will be the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, starting in March. The world’s largest technology company is in the middle of an important leadership change. This shift occurs as the fabless semiconductor company is experiencing increased headwinds competing in a crowded semiconductor industry.

Apart from Tan’s appointment, Intel has announced many of its other major leadership shifts. Greg Ernst has been named Chief Revenue Officer. At the same time, he’s announcing the appointment of Jim Johnson to be Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group. These appointments are a signal of Intel’s continued commitment to act with the operational agility that the changing market and requirements now demand.

Johnston Holthhaus, the former Chief Executive Officer of Intel Products, will remain with the company. He will continue on as a strategic adviser in the future. Raja Naga Chandrasekaran, currently Chief Technology and Operations Officer of Intel Foundry, is moving into that expanded job. He will be moving into new leadership roles around the organization. With Intel Foundry now tasked primarily with manufacturing custom chips for external clients, this assignment will be key to the fab’s future success.

These leadership changes take place against the backdrop of a momentous step by the U.S. government. The federal government followed that announcement up by approving the conversion of current grants into a 10% equity stake in Intel. This move will deepen its collaboration with the leading tech firm. This is a strategic effort to strengthen Intel’s financial foundation in order to continue advancing its leadership in innovation.

Beyond all this, Intel hasn’t been sitting on its heels with regards to building a more inclusive workforce. Most recently in July, the firm announced four new additions to its sales and engineering teams. This strategic decision emphasizes its long standing dedication to developing product innovation and providing superior customer service.

Lastly, he underscored the strategic positioning of innovation and execution within the company.

“We are laser-focused on delivering world-class products and empowering our engineering teams to move faster and execute with excellence. Kevork, Jim, and Srini are exceptional leaders whose deep technical acumen and industry relationships will be instrumental as we continue building a new Intel.” – Lip-Bu Tan

As Intel’s leadership reshuffle shows, the company continues to take significant steps as it attempts to reclaim its former strength in the semiconductor industry. As the company prepares for an upcoming event hosted by TechCrunch in San Francisco from October 27-29, 2025, it aims to showcase its renewed focus on innovation and market responsiveness.

“With Srini leading Central Engineering, we’re aligning innovation and execution more tightly in service to customers.” – Lip-Bu Tan
