May Mobility Set to Launch Autonomous Microtransit Services on Uber Platform

May Mobility, one of the leading global providers of on-demand autonomous microtransit services, is in position to accelerate. They’re collaborating with Uber to roll them out—fully driverless robotaxis—by the end of 2025. This action marks a huge victory on behalf of the company’s workers and climate goals. Its scope is largely limited to very small areas across the US, such as university campuses and other low-speed, circumscribed areas.

Deploying these autonomous vehicles as a first step in Arlington, Texas. This city quickly established itself as an important cornerstone of May Mobility’s broader testing strategy. They’ve now piloted their technology here, as well as in a number of other locations such as Ann Arbor, MI, Grand Rapids, MI, Peachtree Corners, GA, Miami, and Sun City, AZ. This selection of Arlington as the location for the first rollout underscores the city’s dedication to incorporating new solutions in transportation.

In Arlington, the deployment will begin with a human safety operator at the wheel. They will be responsible for making sure passengers are safe throughout the transition period. This approach makes room for a more measured introduction of the technology within each locality’s unique transportation ecosystem. According to May Mobility, as the deployment continues, the company will start to move toward completely driverless vehicles. This change will greatly increase the efficiency and availability of public transit across the region.

The multi-year partnership with Uber is part of a larger, strategic collaboration between the two companies to help May Mobility extend its reach and capabilities. With Uber’s extensive platform and established user base, May Mobility aims to offer seamless access to its autonomous microtransit services. This collaborative agreement is in line with both companies’ shared aims in advancing new sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions.

May’s services have been adapted to address the particular requirements of smaller communities and curbless environments. Unlike competitors, the company specializes in low-speed zones and set routes. This smart approach enables its AVs to drive safely and effectively, offering convenient transportation choices for residents and tourists alike.
