Conveniently, OpenAI has just launched a new promotional offer. In India, users can take advantage of a limited-time offer of 1-year free access to the ChatGPT Go subscription plan! The two-month long initiative kicks off on November 4. Its purpose is to encourage users to use the low-income service they introduced back in August, which is less than $5 a month. As OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States, the company recognizes India’s growing significance in the global digital landscape.
Just like the ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Go gives users TEN times more usage than free users. This feature adds new functionality for creating longer text responses, AI-generated images, and file uploads. Here’s the announcement from OpenAI on why they’ve chosen to give one year of free service. This initiative further emphasizes its dedication in promoting creativity and innovation within its Indian user base, who are already deeply engaged with the chatbot.
In the 90 days before August, OpenAI’s ChatGPT app was downloaded more than 29 million times in India. The app made just $3.6 million in in-app purchases over that time. This gap indicates a robust demand for the platform, fueling OpenAI’s efforts to expand its footprint in the area.
That’s why India has more than 700 million smartphone users. With over a billion subscribers on the internet, the country becomes an alluring market for big technology companies. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has emphasized the importance of India as a key market for the company’s growth. The launch of ChatGPT Go isn’t just to make the app more accessible though.
Nick Turley, the vice president and head of ChatGPT Go, sounded exuberant on their decision to introduce ChatGPT Go in India.
“Since initially launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from our users has been inspiring,” – Nick Turley
He expects this new unlimited offer will encourage users to engage more deeply with the platform.
“We’re excited to see the amazing things our users will build, learn, and achieve with these tools.” – Nick Turley
OpenAI has other ideas for expansion too, as it looks to grow beyond the wealthier nations by rolling out ChatGPT Go to Indonesia and 16 other countries in Asia.
Current paid subscribers of ChatGPT Go will automatically migrate over to this new free plan, further solidifying the user base. To date, OpenAI has not disclosed the duration of this promotional offer. It is an important first step of getting in the game in India’s booming market.
India has been the fastest-growing market for ChatGPT lately. On the one hand, it’s amazing that every day, millions of users are actively engaging with the experimental beta chatbot. Looking forward, OpenAI is set to continue investing and innovating to further enrich the overall user experience in India.
