Oura Health, known for its innovative sleep and wellness tracking technology, announced a significant update to its app on Monday, introducing a redesigned user experience alongside a novel “Cumulative Stress” feature. This new improvement is to give users more in-depth information about how their bodies react to chronic stress over time. Looking to advance your Open Streets game? Look no further! They’ll be going live globally in the next few weeks after receiving Institutional Review Board approval for a related study, expected to start later this year at Oura Labs locations throughout the U.S.
The “Cumulative Stress” feature is a big step in improving how users can track their overall stress levels. It offers a precise, real-time measure with data collected during the past 30 days. By providing this on a weekly basis, it allows the user to better understand how stress builds up and impacts their bodies. This feature with the Oura Ring incorporates various bodily signals, including heart rate variability and sleep rhythms. It even offers a closer look at healthy and unhealthy ways of dealing with stress.
Jason Russell, Oura’s Vice President of Consumer Software Product, further explained how the new feature actually works in practice.
“It’s much more than just tallying the hours spent in stressful periods,” he stated. “It’s actually measuring different bodily functions indicative of cumulative stress taking a toll on your body.”
He went on to say that the feature scores multiple factors. It captures heart rate and heart rate variability responses to stressful experiences as well as thermodynamic changes over the course of sleep.
“There are little signatures that would be indicative of your body experiencing high cumulative stress,” Russell added.
Along with the addition of the “Cumulative Stress” feature, the app redesign includes improved menstrual cycle information. Users can see a 12-month timeline for period and fertile window forecasts. This improvement changes the experience for the public significantly compared to the previous one-month viewing window. Through this change, we hope to give users more agency with broader tracking choices that are meaningful to their health.
The real surprise is the presence of a new “Vitals” tab on the updated app. My Health Snapshot This new feature sums up vital health metrics like sleep quality, stress levels, and cardiovascular trends. The new “Today” tab places a clear focus on the most important insights to guide daily decisions. It features features under “Habits” and “Routines,” taking users on a journey to understand how their everyday choices affect their healthy life expectancy.
Well, Oura today announced some amazing news! In the third quarter, they topped that with a $900 million funding round on a strong investment led by Fidelity Management & Research Co. This round was joined by new investor ICONIQ, along with Whale Rock and Atreides contributing as well. Those new funds will be used to further drive innovation and expansion of Oura’s product line.
Oura Labs is launching a study on the new “Cumulative Stress” feature later this year. The last part is to test how well this new feature actually delivers helpful, concrete insights for users. This program demonstrates Oura’s commitment to driving the future of wellness technology by adding scientific validation and rigor through research.
We’re thrilled to have developers like Oura working on these innovative new features! Users can look forward to an enriched experience that continually monitors health metrics and provides actionable insights to help you manage stress in a healthier way.
