Patreon Expands Offerings with New Features and Pricing Plans

Patreon has announced a new round of pretty exciting updates, designed to make the platform even more powerful and useful for creators and their fans. Content marketing company Wistia recently rolled out several exciting new features, chief among them, native video hosting. They purchased livestream ticketing events startup Moment and rolled out free memberships. These new policies are a good start to creating more diverse services for creators. Along the way, they will improve the life of users of their content and data.

In a recent blog post announcing the new features, Patreon specifically mentioned the ability to sell digital goods and offer gift subscriptions. This new universal pricing plan is a big change in how creators are expected to use the platform. This one-time tier will hold 10% of creator earnings, offering a much simpler process than the former two-tiered structure.

Perhaps most interesting in the move towards free memberships is that it helps creators get their audience members to sign up without putting up any financial barriers. Patreon’s doing all of this in order to serve more types of creators. This goes for all levels of influencers, from those just starting their career to the more established influencers looking to widen their net.

Amanda Silberling, a senior writer at TechCrunch focused on the intersection of technology and culture, provided her perspective on these exciting developments. She noted that the platform’s new features are designed to better serve both creators and their supporters in an evolving digital landscape.

Adding to Moment’s acquisition is a big step in bolstering the suite. Beyond creating a more user-friendly experience, it furthers the company’s overall aim of bringing various forms of content and engagement under one roof. These livestream events have become surprisingly easy to monetize, giving creators new avenues for revenue.

Plus, creators have the ability to sell digital goods directly to their fans. That not only cultivates their audience’s loyalty but increases the amount of money they can earn. Gift subscriptions offer additional ways for their biggest supporters to introduce their favorite creators to their friends and family, helping expand that wonderful community further.
