Officially spun out from Intel, RealSense hits major milestone in its evolution. This company, the creators of groundbreaking stereoscopic imaging technology, are now poised to chart their own course. Led by visionary CEO Nadav Orbach, RealSense is preparing to scale its disruptive camera technology. This advanced technology uses infrared light to provide dramatic improvements in imaging capabilities. After 14 years of hard work, Intel has learned to design cameras that accurately blend two images shot from different angles. This astounding magic trick is what makes the cameras so good at creating depth perception.
The vehicle received a lot last year, resulting in the RealSense to be the Spinoff’s finale. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger approved the independence of RealSense. Orbach has been on fire for vision tech since 2011! As general manager for incubation and disruptive innovation in 2022, Rickey played a key role in that change, and now he’s looking forward to this new chapter. He moves to San Francisco. Last year, he moved to San Francisco to lead the independent operations.
This is the first investment by Intel Capital in a Series A round. This major investment will accelerate their plans for growth. This funding tide creates considerable opportunity for RealSense to leverage its strong legacy in robotics to deliver exciting new applications.
“For me, it was exciting, to be honest,” – Nadav Orbach
RealSense has opened up its hood and found its stride in the world of robotics, where the stereoscopic cameras have been nothing short of indispensable. In the meantime, the company has expanded its focus to developing gesture recognition technology for computers and mobile devices. Outside of the concrete jungle, Orbach noted that the company is intently pursuing broader markets for its products. They’re specifically focused on fish farms looking to deploy RealSense cameras to keep track of the volume in their pens.
“The common denominator of all of them is they live in the real, physical world,” – Nadav Orbach
The shift to independence marks an important inflection point for RealSense as it looks to broaden what it can provide. Along the way, Orbach had some other thoughts and reflections on his journey thus far. He admitted between his inexperience as a first-time CEO with raising seed or venture capital for his new startup.
“I’m a veteran executive in the company, but it’s first time that I’m, you know, I was on the other side of the table. It was a very humbling experience for me as a first-time CEO to go and raise money,” – Nadav Orbach
Orbach made the point that they had envisioned 3D perception as part and parcel of the RealSense dream from the start. He is convinced that this new technology will become increasingly vital. From construction to transportation, industries are keenly interested in upgrading their operational capabilities through enhanced imaging solutions.
“There is a learning curve of, you know, stepping out,” – Nadav Orbach
As RealSense embarks on this new journey as an independent entity, it aims to further innovate and refine its stereoscopic imaging technology. The company prides itself on real-world application and utilizes its deep research and development history. This potent brew makes it ripe for the opportunities of growth and expansion across many sectors.
