Tim De Chant: A Leading Voice in Climate Journalism and Education

Tim De Chant is one of America’s best climate journalists. He brings an impressive academic background and extensive experience in reporting on environmental issues to this role. He received his PhD in environmental science, policy, and management from the University of California, Berkeley. Over his career he has aggressively pursued the challenges that the climate crisis has brought. De Chant is a senior climate reporter at TechCrunch. He is passionate about educating audiences about important environmental topics.

After graduating from St. Olaf College, de Chant began his career as an educator. There, he received a triple BA degree in environmental studies, English and biology. This rich academic background prepared him with the artistic sensitivity to witness and intellectual flexibility to understand that he brings to his reporting. His unique background as a scientist and communicator makes him the perfect candidate to simplify complex climate-related issues and engage young people in a call to action.

De Chant has been an integral force at TechCrunch. He is a professor in MIT’s Graduate Program in Science Writing. This RTP position gives him time and space to pass on his breadth of knowledge and experience to the next generation of journalists.
