Ultraviolette Secures $21 Million Investment to Propel Global Expansion of Indian Electric Motorcycles

Ultraviolette, a Bengaluru based electric motorcycle startup founded in 2016, has raised $21 million. This TDK Corporation’s corporate venture arm was the lead investor in this all-equity funding round. With this new investment, Ultraviolette has now raised a total of approximately $75 million. Some of the heavy-hitters behind that success are Qualcomm Ventures, Exor and TVS Motor. This new funding will power the company’s enterprising initiatives to penetrate into new international markets. Additionally, it will deepen its product offerings.

Founded by passionate EV advocates, Ultraviolette is the brainchild of CEO Narayan Subramaniam and CTO Niraj Rajmohan. Ultraviolette has been at the forefront of the burgeoning electric vehicle market. The company operates a small manufacturing and assembly facility in Bengaluru’s Electronics City. So far, Ultraviolette has successfully sold over 3,000 motorcycles throughout India. They are looking to increase their sales numbers to 10,000 units by the end of this financial year. The startup projects revenue of more than $50 million by then.

Back in February of this year, Ultraviolette launched the F77 Mach 2, its flagship model. Alongside this, they unveiled their second market-ready product—the F77 SuperStreet. The firm has continued to grow its range through the launch of the ultra-light Shock Wave motorcycle. They previously released the Tesseract scooter. Ultraviolette aims to grow its product lineup to 14 models by early 2027, indicating a commitment to innovation and market responsiveness.

Ultraviolette’s vehicles are impressive even in the crowded space of electric motorcycles. Each vehicle is outfitted with eSIM connectivity and a custom diagnostics platform that allows for predictive maintenance. While the company has international market potential, the startup is currently concentrating on domestic sales. It notably announced its plans to grow aggressively in Europe. Ultraviolette is on a European expansion spree. Ultraviolette now has 40 dealerships in Europe. Next year, the company expects to quadruple its European presence and move into motorcycle-intensive markets such as Latin America and Southeast Asia.

This focus reinforces Ultraviolette’s approach to creating electric vehicles that are exciting and desirable to a wider audience. Rajmohan noted that next year would be pivotal for scaling operations in Europe:

“We asked ourselves, if we have to make electric exciting in two-wheelers, what would it take? And that’s the objective with which we started.” – Niraj Rajmohan

The company’s ambitious expansion plans underscore its vision of positioning itself as a major player in the global electric motorcycle market. Ultraviolette is expanding internationally, into new markets and regions, while strengthening its product portfolio. This approach is intended to lure riders who seek environmentally friendly travel choices.

“Next year is where the scale-up happens in Europe.” – Niraj Rajmohan

The company’s ambitious expansion plans underscore its vision of positioning itself as a major player in the global electric motorcycle market. By entering new markets and enhancing its product offerings, Ultraviolette aims to capture the interests of consumers seeking sustainable transportation options.
