X Introduces 4K Video Uploads Amidst TikTok Uncertainty

Today, X rolled out a major improvement to its video-sharing functionality, letting all users share videos in crisp 4K resolution. This move comes as part of X’s broader strategy to increase user engagement and retain its audience amidst growing competition, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s potential ban in the United States.

Earlier this year, X rolled out a dedicated feed for vertical videos, reflecting the platform’s commitment to adapting to user preferences. The mobile app adds a really easy shortcut for vertical videos directly to its home page. We think this is a fantastic way to generate user interest in this increasingly popular format! Yonder X takes advantage of fleeting trends and recent changes in user behavior. This strategy hooks users in and stops them from moving to competitors such as YouTube or Vimeo for their video fix.

Before this new update, X let paying users upload video at 1080p max resolution. These subscribers were then able to upload videos consuming up to 8GB. They had the capacity to broadcast live videos that were up to about three hours long! This could be set to change if 4K resolution support is introduced. That makes it the clearest indication yet of X’s intent to remix its offerings and compete more aggressively in the video-sharing space.

…while X has slowly raised the upload limit for its paying subscribers during the last 12 months. Then in December 2022, the platform allowed Twitter Blue accounts to upload videos of 60 minutes maximum length. This was even more so the case with their further extension last May when paid users were finally given the ability to upload two-hour-long videos. Such enhancements reflect X’s ongoing efforts to entice users to share more video content since Elon Musk acquired the company.

The move to implement 4K uploads matches X’s broader initiative to encourage a more immersive user interface. This platform-wide focus to lure the top-tier creators that value visual fidelity is made possible through the power of higher-quality video. Not only will this move value its overall quality appeal library.

Video If you’re looking to better understand how to leverage X’s new premium features, then you’re in luck! The company has created a special support page to help subscribers navigate the process.
