Torrie Lewis Breaks Own National 100m Record at World Championships

Sub-20 Australian sprinter Torrie Lewis caused a stir on the first day of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo today. She broke her own national record in the women’s 100 meters and yet, she is phenomenal. This was an incredible time by Lewis, 11.08 seconds! She demolished her old mark of 11.10 seconds, which she ran last year in Canberra.

Facing a tough field in the seventh and most competitive heat race of the day, Lewis showed incredible speed and tenacity. She blasted out of the blocks and carried her speed all the way to the line, through the race’s later stages. Her excellent performance earned her a place in the semi-finals. It highlighted her promise for even greater things to come.

Lewis finished third in her heat, trailing behind American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who finished with a time of 11.03 seconds, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, who clocked in at 11.04 seconds. Lewis’s time was good enough to qualify through to Sunday’s semi-finals.

Lewis faced a stiff challenge from Norridge’s Peyton Kliem in her heat. She realized she couldn’t make a single miss-step in order to progress. Her commanding performance resembled that of Jessica Hull in the women’s 1500m heats, indicating her readiness to compete against the world’s best athletes.

Lewis is excited about her performance and upcoming races.

“I was super nervous before this competition because I knew in training that these are the times I can hit,” – Torrie Lewis.

Julien Alfred of St Lucia dominated the qualifiers with a stunning 10.93 seconds. Lewis’s new national record seals her reputation as a young star of tequila and athletics of Russia. Tune in as fans cheer on her as she competes in the semi-final race!

“But after I let it sink in I was very glad I had them because I can run with them, and who cares if they beat me, because they’re the best in the world ever, almost.” – Torrie Lewis.

Looking ahead, Lewis is optimistic about her performance and future races.

“Actually this is the slowest time in my mind that I had, so hopefully I can build on that.” – Torrie Lewis.

Regaining Olympic champion Julien Alfred from St Lucia led the qualifiers with a remarkable time of 10.93 seconds. Meanwhile, Lewis’s new national record further solidifies her position as a rising star in athletics and raises anticipation for her upcoming semi-final race.
