Civilians Rescue Trapped Individual Following Helicopter Crash on Sacramento Freeway

A California Highway Patrol helicopter crashed on a busy freeway in Sacramento, California, Wednesday evening. The crash resulted in major destruction, putting three individuals in critical condition. The incident unfolded shortly after the helicopter departed from UC Medical Centre at 7:05 PM local time, heading to a medical center from Redding Regional Airport.

As a result of the extensive damage to the helicopter’s fuselage, it landed upside down on the busy Highway 50. Upon closer inspection, they found an enormous gap between the aircraft fuselage and tail. At the same time, they discovered enormous clumps of grass wrapped around the bottom of the tail rotor. Witnesses spoke of massive clouds of white smoke coming from the wreck, increasing fears for those onboard.

Eyewitness Accounts and Immediate Response

Witnesses recounted the harrowing scene as the helicopter plummeted to earth just moments before crashing. Traffic was at a standstill as motorists and bystanders quickly realized that this was a serious matter.

“People reported that they basically saw the helicopter kind of going down quickly. So all the traffic slowed down,” – Justin Sylvia

In a heroic display of citizenry, some 15 bystanders leapt to her aid. After much effort, they succeeded in raising the 19,000 lb helicopter high enough to extract one individual that had been trapped beneath the downed bird. Emergency services were on the scene minutes after the civilians helped to rescue 200 people.

“It took every ounce of all approximately 15 people to move that aircraft up just enough to get her out,” – Justin Sylvia

These civilians’ quick actions were lauded by Congress and Americans standing witness to the day’s events.

“It’s really sombering and sobering. I am up flying with sheriff pilots that do this day in and day out. And it really makes you grateful for every day and grateful for our officers and our medical pilots,” – Lisa Kaplan
