Ten People Stabbed on Train Near Cambridge, Nine in Critical Condition

A shocking incident unfolded on a train traveling to London when ten individuals were stabbed near Cambridge, eastern England, on Saturday at 7:39 PM. This attack sent nine victims with life-threatening injuries, making the emergent response from first responders all the more crucial. The train was some 120 kilometers north of London when the violence started. Such a scene was understandably alarming, leading to a large-scale police response and the British Transport Police declaring this as a “major incident.”

Officials rushed to the scene after receiving several 911 calls about the stabbings. The East of England Ambulance Service had a massive emergency response. The police stated that all ten victims were eventually taken to local hospitals and medical facilities for treatment.

Cambridgeshire police stated, “Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested.” This swift action by law enforcement allowed the crime scene to be contained and the safety of passengers ensured.

Chief Superintendent Chris Casey emphasized the ongoing investigation: “We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further.” He noted, “At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.”

Community Response and Impact on Travel

Additionally, the impact of this attack has rippled beyond just the local community. Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, described hearing of “horrendous scenes” on the train, reflecting the sentiments of many who have been affected by the incident.

LNER, the state-owned rail operator for the east of England and Scotland, has now given its passengers a warning. They urge against all travel on impacted roads due to “severe impact.” The company has been in constant communication with police to help control the situation and keep passengers safe.

Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, expressed his condolences, stating, “My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.”
