Alex de Minaur plans scans after injury ends China Open final
The Australian's participation in the Shanghai Masters 1000 event is uncertain after his retirement handed Novak Djokovic a 102nd career title.

Alex de Minaur plans to have scans in Shanghai after an adductor injury forced him to retire from the China Open final against Novak Djokovic. The Australian said tests were needed to establish the nature of the problem, which could prevent him from playing the Shanghai Masters 1000 event.
De Minaur said discomfort developed during the latter stages of the opening set and progressively worsened. Djokovic took that set 7-6 (7-3) after 67 minutes, before de Minaur received treatment off court. He returned with strapping on his left thigh but stopped early in the second set.
Djokovic had also needed medical treatment during the match. The 39-year-old collected his first title of the year and his seventh in Beijing, where he has recorded 34 wins without a defeat. The result extended his run of winning a tournament in each of the past 21 seasons.
De Minaur is eighth in the live Race to Turin standings following Jannik Sinner's announcement that knee trouble had ended his season. Holding that position would qualify the Australian for another ATP Finals appearance, but his planned Shanghai campaign leaves little time to assess the injury.
