Australian Open organisers say the 1 Point Slam will return in 2027, offering amateurs the opportunity to face professional players for a prize of A$1 million. The format uses a knockout draw, with each contest settled by one point.

The field is set to include Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka and Jannik Sinner. Professionals, amateurs and wild cards will contest the final at Rod Laver Arena on 13 January 2027.

Club qualifiers are already underway nationwide, organisers said. Two additional qualifying days are scheduled for opening week, ahead of the Australian Open tournament running from 17 to 31 January.

Local amateur Jordan Smith took the previous prize after defeating Sinner and then Taiwan's Joanna Garland. The deciding point ended on its third stroke, when Garland's two-handed backhand went wide.

New Tennis Australia chief executive Andrew Abdo said the competition was designed to build closer ties between the Australian Open and tennis communities around the country.

Following attendance of more than 1.3 million at the 2026 Australian Open, organisers plan more seating, greater viewing capacity and extra shade throughout the Melbourne Park precinct in 2027.
