Daniel Tupou retires after fourth Roosters premiership
The 35-year-old winger finishes as Sydney’s leading try-scorer, with 198 tries across 307 appearances for the club.

Daniel Tupou has announced his NRL retirement days after helping the Sydney Roosters beat Newcastle in the grand final, securing his fourth premiership with the club. The 35-year-old spent his entire 15-year career with the Roosters.
His 307 appearances produced 198 tries, placing him third on the premiership’s all-time try-scoring list behind Ken Irvine and Alex Johnston. He overtook Anthony Minichiello as the Roosters’ leading try-scorer in 2023.
Tupou debuted in the NRL in 2012. His premiership victories came in 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2026, making him the sixth Roosters player to win four titles. He also won three World Club Challenges.
Beyond club football, Tupou represented Australia and Tonga in Tests and made 10 State of Origin appearances for NSW between 2014 and 2022. He played in Tonga’s victory over the Kangaroos in 2019.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Tupou would be remembered among the club’s greats, praising his consistency, dependability and influence on its aerial game.
Several other Roosters players are also departing. Mark Nawaqanitawase and Angus Crichton are switching to rugby union, Daly Cherry-Evans is moving to Hull FC in Super League, and Connor Watson is joining St George Illawarra.
