Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou has announced his retirement following the club’s grand final victory over Newcastle, bringing his 15-year NRL career to a close.

Tupou won premierships in 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2026, becoming the sixth Roosters player to collect four titles with the club. His 198 tries place him third on the premiership’s all-time list, behind Ken Irvine and Alex Johnston.

After making his NRL debut in 2012, Tupou overtook Anthony Minichiello as the Roosters’ leading try-scorer in 2023. He also won three World Club Challenges, represented Australia and Tonga in Tests, and made 10 State of Origin appearances for NSW between 2014 and 2022.

Trent Robinson said Tupou’s contribution extended beyond his statistics, praising his reliability and influence on the Roosters’ aerial game. Tupou said spending his entire NRL career at the club meant a great deal to him, as did sharing premiership wins with his teammates.

His retirement adds to several departures from the Roosters. Mark Nawaqanitawase and Angus Crichton are switching to rugby union, while Daly Cherry-Evans is moving to Hull FC in Super League and Connor Watson is joining St George Illawarra.
