Australian captain Pat Cummins says the team has put the 2018 ball-tampering scandal behind it and he is comfortable with former teammate Usman Khawaja publishing his account. Khawaja's autobiography is scheduled for release after Australia's Test tour of South Africa.

Speaking before the opening Test in Durban, Cummins said Khawaja had phoned him about the book but offered little detail about its contents. Cummins said the incident had been investigated and dealt with, and he was proud of how the Australian group had changed since that series.

Khawaja wrote the autobiography himself, without a ghost writer. It will be the first autobiography by an Australian who took part in the Cape Town Test in 2018. The extent of its coverage of the scandal is not yet known, and there is no suggestion it will contradict the investigation findings.

David Warner and Steve Smith each received 12-month suspensions over the incident, while Cameron Bancroft was banned for nine months. Cricket Australia's investigation concluded that no players beyond those three knew about the sandpaper plan. Australia's bowlers have separately said they were unaware a foreign substance would be brought onto the field.
